15 JUN '07, TORSO bares all at the BBFC
Sergio Martino's 1973 giallo TORSO (a personal favourite of Quentin Tarantino's) was today passed "18" by the BBFC in a new widescreen, subtitled print from Argent Films. Even more importantly, the film is uncut in the UK for the first time, restoring 50 previously censored seconds. BBFC information HERE.

Update: SUSPIRIA (slightly trimmed) on the big screen
At tonight's screening of HOSTEL PART II at Bradford's Media Museum, Artistic Director Tony Earnshaw confirmed that the print of SUSPIRIA showing tomorrow (see below) is the only one left in the country. This means it'll be missing shots removed by the BBFC in 1977, namely 13 seconds of gory detail from the dog attack, and 2 seconds of throat slashing from the "room of razor-wire" sequence.

13 JUN '07, Dial N for "new review"
Telephone terror and phone-y shocks? It must be Ruggero Deodato's late-eighties cheesefest, DIAL: HELP. Read the review HERE.

R1 Argento DVD rereleases
DVD Active has put together a lovely page about the upcoming region 1 Argento rereleases from Blue Underground (SUSPIRIA, CAT O'NINE TAILS, OPERA and a 2-disc STENDHAL SYNDROME), some of which contain all-new special features. Pics and info HERE.

11 JUN '07, Vipco no more
Vipco will close at the end of the year. The DVD distributor is loved and loathed in equal measures by fans of Italian horror and video nasties, thanks to its range of obscure titles but habit of releasing shoddy transfers or cut prints. Still, there have been some great discs, including uncut versions of A BLADE IN THE DARK and THE BEYOND, and an extras-packed CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD. More information HERE.

Fulci titles AWOL on DVD
Here are a couple of titles that have gone through the BBFC in recent times but have yet to show up on DVD in the UK...
MANHATTAN BABY (widescreen) Passed "18" uncut on 29 July 2005.
THE NEW YORK RIPPER (widescreen) Passed "18" with 34 seconds of cuts on 14 February 2007. Edits removed some of the film's notorious sexualized violence, specifically "a naked and bound woman's stomach and breasts being mutilated with a razor".

10 JUN '07, Mother of teasers
Dark Dreams has posted a link to a camcorder-shot video of the new teaser trailer for Dario Argento's LA TERZA MADRE (aka MOTHER OF TEARS), released in Italy on 31 October 2007. See it HERE.

New trading cards uploaded
I've uploaded six new trading cards based on giallo films produced outside of italy, including the Brian De Palma masterpiece DRESSED TO KILL (soon to be remade) and the 1971 British entry ASSAULT. Click the TRADING CARDS link to the right, or check them out HERE.

8 JUN '07, SUSPIRIA on the big screen
The Dario Argento classic will be showing at the National Media Museum in Bradford this Saturday (16 June, 8:30pm) as part of the Fantastic Films Weekend. As well as cult TV movies and some classic Hammer horror, there will also be an advance screening of HOSTEL PART II. More details HERE.

Cuts be damned
Melon Farmers have confirmed that the version of Dario Argento's INFERNO currently showing on the UK satellite channel Zone Horror (Sky 321/Virgin 170) is uncut although the shots restored both involve animal cruelty, rather than anything fun (a cat being swung against a chair, and a mouse being eaten alive by a cat). Further details HERE.

GIALLO TRADING CARDS
We'd call them CHOP TRUMPS if we weren't afraid of being sued... Print them off, cut 'em out, and play the GIALLO CARD GAME! It's the perfect way to unwind after being stalked by a killer during your latest fashion shoot in Milan.
